At The Borders

We were tired and really wanted to go to bed. In this Christmas season we are rushing from one event to the other. Our bodies cried for sleep...finally...BUT instead of "silent night!" there was a crying cat under our window. Whoever has heard a baby cat, that is stuck alone in the woods without the mama cat and her siblings, knows what I mean: a constant and annoying miawing. It was late and dark and we couldn't make ourselves go down in the high grass beside our house to look for this kitty. After a long time we fell asleep from exhaustion. At 6 am we had to be already at the Father's House for our Sunday duty. I couldn't believe it: the cat was still crying. Thomas first act was to look for this pussy cat. There it was: a tiny black, hungry cat. The kids in the Father's House were exited to help feed the new baby with milk. The early morning activity with the kids was solved. Later in the day we had an older cat adopt our foundling.
The next day, on Monday we headed to one of our street kids Christmas parties. Everything went well, kids were happy and we had food and gifts enough.

At the game part of the program, Thomas ran into a little boy. He wanted to play and Thomas lifted him up: "Ouch!" shouted the little fellow and Thomas let him down immediately. We found out that the boy got kicked so hard by his step father that he fell down the stairs and hurt himself badly. His mother didn't care much about the children, so he decided to run away with his 8 year old brother. Both boys looked scared and broken. Our first thought was: we bring them home! However, our house is filled with little boys at the moment. We can barely manage all the work and attention it requires to take care of them. We don't even have a spare bed at the moment. We felt desperate! All we could do is to arrange a visit to the dentist (because on top of his misery he had bad tooth ache)and a follow up visit in the streets will follow. We will try to find out about their family and will help medically how we can. Yet, it leaves a bitter after taste. Two little brothers alone in the streets who are not even yet used to the rough street style life. Here we are: saving a crying cat and leaving two little boys in the streets! Sometimes life just sucks!
