May 5 is always a busy day full of Happy Birthday Songs, Cakes and lots of fun in the Father's House. Four people celebrate their birthday on that day. One of them is Thomas. He received already lots of cards and greetings and gifts that he really appreciated. After lunch time we just sat down for our coffee break habit when it knocked at the door. A big smile entered the room with a plastic bag in his hand. "Here, Papa Thomas, I have something for you from my Father!" We couldn't believe it. One of our newer Father's House boys who used to sleep at the sidewalk of the streets was able to visit his father on a house visit together with a staff member. His father was so pleased to see his son that he gave him 5 Mangoes in a plastic bag as a gift. He can't take care for his boy, that's why he used to sleep in the streets. However, today he found a way to express his love for his son in this Mangoes. This boy loves to eat and broke the record in gaining weight in our house. Food is ALWAYS a special gift for him. Here he came now back from an emotionally important home visit with his precious gift from his father he didn't see in a long time and said:" I want to share this with you!Happy Birthday, Papa Thomas!" We didn't know what to say when he pulled out two Mangoes to share with us. What a lesson in giving we learned once again from the kids we are taking care of.
